TikTok Takedown

TikTok is the closest it’s ever been to being banned, but this isn’t the first time it’s happened. Here’s a recap of what’s been going on:

July 7th, 2020: The Trump administration announced they were going to ban TikTok.

July 31st, 2020: The Trump administration gave ByteDance, the owner of TikTok, thirty days to sell TikTok before they would shut it down.

Sept. 13th, 2020: TikTok announced that they would sell a portion to an American computer software company, Oracle.

Jan. 20th, 2021: Trump left office, with the ban on TikTok still pending. Joe Biden replaced him as President of the United States.

June 9th, 2021: Biden signed an executive order revoking the previous administration’s ban on TikTok. In turn, he requested that the Secretary of Commerce look into the potential threat to national security.

June 10th, 2022: Alarming reports surfaced regarding China-based ByteDance potentially having access to US data and repeatedly breaching the privacy of TikTok users.

Feb. 27th, 2023: The White House gave federal agencies thirty days to delete TikTok from all government devices due to security threats from ByteDance.

March 13th, 2024: A bill was passed by the House of Representatives that will force ByteDance to sell TikTok or get shut down. The bill has now moved to the Senate which will have the final say in the matter. However, the bill is not moving through the Senate nearly as quickly as it did in the House.

3 Easy Steps to Protect Yourself:

  • In the case of TikTok getting shut down, you can continue to use the app as long as you don’t delete it. The second it’s deleted from the App Store or Play Store, you won’t be able to re-download it.

  • If you’re a creator, make sure you have another way to reach your followers. In these next few months, work to connect with your followers and create an email list so you can always keep them up to date.

  • Start to focus on building your following on different apps. Whether or not TikTok gets banned, brands will be hesitant to make brand deals on the app for fear of it getting shut down. Use TikTok to find new supporters and direct them to other platforms to enjoy your content. This will secure you a little bit of financial protection.

Editor’s Choice

The debate continues between Adobe Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro. Which platform is ultimately better for video editing in 2024? Let's dive into a comparison of features, performance, and pricing to help you decide.

When choosing between Adobe Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro, factors such as platform compatibility, budget, and familiarity are crucial. Premiere Pro has powerful features and collaboration tools under a monthly Creative Cloud subscription. Final Cut Pro's simple interface and one-time payment make it appealing for certain projects.

..…………

Considering pricing, Adobe Premiere Pro operates on a subscription model, with standalone app subscriptions starting at $21 monthly, or users can opt for the Creative Cloud All Apps package at $54.99. In contrast, Final Cut Pro requires a one-time payment, typically just under $300, offering a more cost-effective approach in the long run.

..…………

In terms of platform compatibility, Premiere Pro caters to both Windows and MacOS users, while Final Cut Pro is exclusively available for MacOS. This distinction influences system requirements, with Premiere Pro demanding Windows 10+ or MacOS Big Sur v11.0+, and Final Cut Pro necessitating MacOS 10.14.6+, among other specifications.

 ..…………

When it comes to user interface and ease of use, Premiere Pro employs a typical NLE timeline with tracks, while Final Cut Pro features the Magnetic Timeline, suitable for beginners transitioning from iMovie. Both offer efficient design but differ in usability options, catering to many editing preferences and project complexities.

..…………

Ultimately, the choice between Adobe Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro boils down to individual needs and project requirements. While Premiere Pro excels in flexibility and customization, Final Cut Pro offers simplicity and efficiency, especially for certain project types and user preferences. Whether you prioritize cost-effectiveness, ease of use, or feature-rich capabilities, both software options promise impressive results for your video editing endeavors.

Bulletproofing Your Business

The FTC’s cracking down, here’s the fourth step to protecting yourself.

The fourth step is to build your following on other accounts. Many creators find a majority of their success on a single platform and spend most of their time developing it. As a creator, it’s important to avoid putting all of your eggs in one basket. Spread your success to other platforms.

Post on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Snapchat regularly. There’s no shame in repurposing one video for multiple platforms. If one of your accounts gets shut down for violating guidelines, it’s helpful to have access to your supporters and continue to provide the content in other places.

Tune in next week where we’ll uncover the last step to protecting your accounts. See you then!
